AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY 1 AND 2
Grade: 11-12 Length: 90 min./day
Prerequisite: Student Application Credit: 2 Each Year
The Auto Tech program is a two-year program for junior and senior students. Students learn how engines and all other mechanical systems of automobiles function. They inspect, disassemble, assemble, adjust, replace, and repair all mechanical parts. Use of tools and equipment, diagnosis, and repair are learned. Also, the theory and practice of cost estimating is studied. Adequate time is allocated to learn about the electrical system, transmissions, testing engine functioning, and safety procedures.

The senior students, upon fulfilling necessary requirements, receive “on-the-job” training with automotive companies as these jobs become available. Upon graduation, they are frequently hired by these companies on a full-time basis.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT 1, JUNIOR LEVEL “COMPANY”
Grade: 11 Length: 1 Year
Tech Prep Program Credit: 2

In this junior program, students are required to work as an “employee” in a professional atmosphere called COMPANY. The classroom environment is designed to simulate a professional office setting. Each student has his/her own computer workstation. The facility includes a lab, testing center, and presentation room. This is a total career-training program where competency certificates will be earned to build an impressive job portfolio of certification. Students can choose from various career majors: Information Management, Financial Management, Business Management, Interactive Media Specialist, and Medical Specialist. In addition, a mandatory professional development and core success skills major are included. During the second semester, Career Minors may be selected.
Students are automatically registered as member of Business Professionals of America (BPA) and are required to participate in field trips, leadership conferences, and BPA Skill Assessment Contests.
Learning is competency based. This course validates master business skills, develops professional work ethics and fosters personal growth.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT II, SENIOR LEVEL “COMPANY”
Grade: 12 Length: 1 Year (1 block)
Tech Prep Program Credit: 2
In this senior level course, students will continue to develop the business skills that were introduced during the Business Technology I course. Emphasis will be placed on advanced word processing concepts, accounting principles, spreadsheet and database applications, filing, employability skills, desktop publishing, and many other business related subjects. Students are provided with the knowledge and skill to either continue their education in college or acquire an entry-level job.

During the last semester, students may be eligible for on-the-job field experience if they have maintained a “C” average for the year and with teacher recommendation.

COSMETOLOGY 1 AND 2
Grade: 11-12 Length: 1.5 blocks
Prerequisite: Student Application Credit: 3 Each Year
In this two-year program, students learn manicuring, facial, correct care of the scalp, shampooing, permanent waving, chemical hair relaxing, hair styling, cutting and coloring. They also study the maintenance of beauty shop equipments, sterilization, sanitation, diseases of the nails, skin, hair, and scalp, anatomy, shop management, and cosmetology practices with public customers, under licensed supervision, to gain practical experience similar to that of practicing cosmetologists. Graduates are prepared to take the State Board of Cosmetology examinations for an operator’s license.

Students must have 1500 hours to meet all State Board requirements in order to receive credit. Additionally, passing grades must be maintained in English, Math, and Science Classes. Academic grades are reported to the State Board each semester.

BUILDING AND PROPERTY MAINTENANCE 1 AND 2
Grade: 11-12 Length: 90 mins/day, 2 Years
Prerequisite: None Credit: 2 Each Year
The Building and Property Maintenance Program is a two-year program for junior and senior students. Students will lean and develop skills for maintenance and remodeling of houses and other buildings. The curriculum will include hands-on experience in electricity, plumbing, roofing, siding, framing, drywall, and painting. In addition, the students also lay brick and block; install doors and windows, along with home insulation.

The senior students are permitted to go on a work-study program during the second semester. As jobs become available, this “on-the-job” training will be with contractors, builders, and suppliers. Often, after graduation, these employers hire students on a full-time basis.

TEACHERS ACADEMY 10, 11, AND 12
Grade: 10-12 Length: 1 Block 2 Years
Credit: 2 Each Year, 10th grade 1 credit elective
This program is a two year orientation for the teaching profession. Students are exposed to teaching careers and the education system through simulations, “hands-on” activities, and observations. In addition to the curriculum components, all students are required to participate in a field experience in a public school classroom for approximately 5 weeks.

CISCO NETWORKING*
Grade: 11-12 Length: 2 Years
Prerequisite: Student Application Credit: 3 Each Year

This course prepares students to enter the high tech career of Computer Network Administration and Support. This is a 2 year program. The curriculum ranges from installation and use of application software, A+ Computer Repair Troubleshooting PCs, to designing, installing, and troubleshooting a Local Area Network (LAN). Students participate in hands-on projects that provide real life experiences, while preparing for the CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam and the A+ Computer Repair certification. Students may receive college credit from Cuyahoga Community College with successful completion of this course and passing the certification tests. Tech Prep option available.

HEALTH SERVICES 1 AND 2*
Grade: 11-12 Length: 2 Years
Prerequisite: Algebra 1, Biology, Chemistry Credit: 3 Each Year
Health Science is a two-year program designed to prepare students for a career in the health care field. It is geared towards nursing but offers an excellent medical background for students interested in any of the health care fields. Students will learn: Anatomy and Physiology, Communication, documentation, and patient interaction skills, First-Aid and CPR, Infection Control, Teamwork skills, Environmental safety, legal responsibilities and ethical practice, medical terminology, patient care skills, and employability skills such as job interviewing and resumes, personal hygiene, admission, transfer, and patient discharge, care of surgical patients, electrocardiograms, elimination procedures and specimen collection, oxygen therapy, use of ambulance devices, and working in the isolation unit.

Providing an excellent foundation for careers in: Physical and Occupational Therapy, Radiology, Dietician, Medical Records, Cardiovascular Technology, and Respiratory Therapy.

BIOTECHNOLOGY*
Grade: 12 Length: 1 Year,
Credit: 2
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Honors Biology I with a grade of “B” or higher and completion of Honors Chemistry I with a grade of “B” or higher with successful completion of AP Chemistry, Honors Physics, or Physics during the Junior Year.

This course is designed as a rigorous course in Biotechnology, which is creating a product from a living organism or part of a living organism. It is offered as an elective to college preparatory students with the interest and ability to do advanced biological study and research. This course is structured to mirror the content and laboratory skills of an introductory college level Biotechnology course or the Biotechnology industry, so that the student will be successful in a Biotechnology program or industry. Students will be required to enroll in a week-long Biotechnology course at Cuyahoga Community College, after high school graduation, to “bridge” the transition from high school to college or the Biotechnology industry. Biochemistry, cellular processes, animal anatomy and physiology, plant anatomy and physiology, bacteria, viruses, fungi, DNA, proteins, and proper usage of Biotechnology equipment are the focal points of this course. Students will be required to purchase a laboratory notebook and a scientific calculator for this class.

MARKETING I
Grade: 11-12 Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: None Credit: 1
Marketing I is the study of the sale and distribution of ideas, goods, and services that will satisfy the needs of consumers. This course will explore the nine functions of marketing: distribution, financing, marketing, information management, pricing, product/service planning, purchasing, risk management and selling. Students will be introduced to careers in all of these areas.

MARKETING II
Grade: 12 Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Marketing I Credit: 1
Marketing is designed for seniors whose career objective is a job in Marketing or Management. The goal of marketing is for a student to secure, maintain, and advance in a business occupation upon graduation and/or got to college for advanced business opportunities.

The program includes on-the-job training and related in-school instruction. On-the-job training is secured with the help of the coordinator in positions around the community. Areas of employment include advertising and visual merchandising, restaurant management, and general marketing. Students must work a minimum of 15 hours per week. They receive competitive wages and must be able to provide their own transportation. Club activities in DECA are an integral part of this program and help build leadership skills.

Students apply the knowledge of marketing functions learned in Marketing I. These applications will include a variety of projects including study in career areas, marketing and management simulation, learning how to start your own business and developing a career portfolio.
