Welcome Back!

August 2010

What an exciting summer as we saw real progress on construction of our new schools.  The new Milkovich Middle School behind Stafford Elementary and the elementary campus located near Dunham Elementary are beginning to take shape.  Our construction timetable is currently ahead of schedule and under budget – great news for all of us.  Once again, thanks to the support of the citizens of Maple Heights, our new schools will be built at less than half the cost to taxpayers.  A special state program provides 51% of the funding.

As part of our commitment to raising student achievement, we continue to add new initiatives, such as block scheduling and service learning at the high school – all designed to add academic rigor while building relationships.  Earlier changes, including converting to grade-level buildings and adding preschool classrooms, and all-day kindergarten are making a real difference.  Services for those identified as gifted and talented are now offered to students in the third through the twelfth grades.  Our free, after-school program expanded services to selected students in grades four through twelve, providing tutoring, enrichment and sport activities.  Additionally, a group of new teachers is involved in a three-year master’s degree program offered right in the district.

Parents and our community members continue to support our programs and initiatives.  Thank you for all you do for our students.
